The Becoming a Banker series features real, Central National Bank employees who have found a rewarding career in banking. We hope you enjoy knowing a little bit about the people who serve you.
At 19 I was attending K-State and majoring in journalism with an emphasis in advertising. I have always been creative and loved to write, so I got a job at the school paper creating advertisements. This wasn’t a lot of hours and the pay was minimal, so I also got a job running an embroidery machine at an apparel company in town during one of the evening shifts.
I’m happy doing lots of different things and like to be busy, so when I was approached by the cousin of my boyfriend about another little part-time gig creating ads I jumped at the chance to build my portfolio.
I started out working on newspaper ads for CD specials and slowly started picking up other little tasks at the bank like helping with events and handling other marketing-related tasks. Eventually I quit my late-night job so I could simplify my schedule.
Fast-forward nearly two decades and I’m still here marketing for the bank. I’m not sure at what point I “became a banker,” but I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come my way over the years and can’t imagine leaving the banking industry for another job.
