The Becoming a Banker series features real, Central National Bank employees who have found a rewarding career in banking. We hope you enjoy knowing a little bit about the people who serve you.

When I was a little girl, I used to play office. I could spend hours pretending to answer the phone, wait on customers, type letters and fill out paperwork. So, when I was looking for a part-time job while attending college, my mom suggested I apply at the new bank being built in town. I was hired as a part-time teller, filling in over the lunch hour between classes and then coming back to work the drive-up until close. This was my introduction to banking and I knew pretty quickly on that I could do this for the rest of my life. Here I am, 45 years later, still loving it!

I’ve been blessed with lots of opportunities. I spent time as a teller and then worked in bookkeeping, back in the days when we hand-posted & filed all the checks individually. The bank I started with went through some mergers and acquisitions over the years, and I was always excited to try new things. This led to opportunities to work in internal audit, Secretary to the Board, Cashier and then Branch President. Now I lead the Retail Division and travel around to all 30 branches as well as serving as part of the Executive Management Team. Who knew a part-time teller job could lead to such a fulfilling career?

Someone once said to me, after they found out I was a banker, “you must be a numbers-person” and I replied, “no, I’m a people-person!”

My favorite part about working in a bank is the relationships built and friendships made over the years. Every day is different. There is always a new product, challenge or regulation happening, and I’ve never been bored! I’m a list-maker so every day has a purpose and there is great satisfaction in marking things OFF my list.

I don’t think most people start out to “be a banker” but there are so many fulfilling roles in banking:

  1. Interested in business? Be a banker!
  2. Like to work with computers? Be a banker!
  3. Thinking about a career in Human Resources? Try banking!
  4. Management opportunities? Banking!
  5. Accounting? Banking!
  6. Sales? Banking!
  7. Marketing? Banking!
  8. Not sure what you want to do? Banking!

And have I mentioned all the great benefits including health insurance, 401K, paid vacation & sick time, plus all the Federal holidays?! I appreciate Central National Bank’s focus on community involvement which is another way to serve our customers and our communities.

If you’re looking for a professional career with room to grow, try banking! We provide on-the-job training and some great people to work with!.
